Supplier frustration!!!
Posted by Milairjunkie on Friday, December 12, 2008 7:26 AM

About a week & 1/2 ago I was delighted to receive my new airbrush & compressor -great.

I have decided to use Tamiya Acrylic's & placed an order for a fair bit of paint about a week ago - so I called the supplier today to find out where the order is, to be informed that Tamiya's UK supplier are currently out of thinner & dont expect stock until early next year.

It's the same story with the hose for my airbrush, cant seem to pick up anything easily as both have not so popular connectors, I have been trying to get one from the airbrush supplier for over a week now & still no joy.

I'm just having a moan as I am FRUSTRATED after spending lots of hard earned dosh on the brush/compressor & am not yet even in a position to use it.

If you do get hold of your connector/hose, though I recommend Tamiya's original thinner, in a pinch, methylated spirits will work as an alternative with Tamiya flat acrylics. You probably have a bottle under the sink and if not, you should be able to get one from your local supermarket or hardware store. However, it's less compatible with the gloss colours as it can take the edge off the gloss.

Bummer about the out-of-stock thinner.  I usually use the X-20 Tamiya thinner too, but have been known to substitute 91% isopropyl alcohol in a pinch.  Thins it very well, but also causes the paints to dry faster resulting in an extra-flat finish.  You could consider getting some to at least play with airbrushing.

i have considered the isopropyl to do some test /training with, but can't really move ahead until i get either a suitable hose or connector. i have asked the locals here (3 Sheep & a Haggis) but nobody has anything suitable - so it's mail order for that.

Have you ever heard of "Rainbow Ten"? It's an online mail-order store located in japan that ships worldwide. They have a huge selection (and almost always in-stock) of paints, tools and all sorts of kits... I get pretty much everything from them.
Just Google "rainbow ten" and it should show up.
Cheers!
