Weatheringpanel lines question??
Posted by philly on Friday, January 2, 2009 12:57 AM

I am working on a Millenium Falcon. I have several resource photos and prop set diagrams with great photos that I am using. I can't seem to get the same weathered look in the photos. There is a lot of raised panel lines and much detail to this kit. How can I mix to get a real weathered look. Bleach?? The rear exhaust ports are the hardest to get. Any advise?

Thanks,

D.

Hmmm.

How about you start by telling us what you've tried so far and what the result is. That would give us a better idea as to what's going on.

and to add on to HK, what is your base coat? If you work in enamels, use acrylics for your weathering wash, and if your base coat is acrylics, vice versa.

Thanks.

Working on a 1989 AMT Millenuim Falcon. Base coat is a white/grey mix. I wanted to high lite the limited panels and give the many raised details a weathered look. I have a great pic that shows a lot of exhaulst wear. I don't have an air brush.

Thanks

A heavily thinned burnt umber wash would go great on that. It will give a nice grimy finish without being too stark, and you can remove it fairly easily within an hour or so to suit your taste. No airbrush needed. also you may want to look at some pastels for the exhaust soot. An old simple trick is pencil lead in selected areas for aged bare metals.... Have fun with your Falcon... after all, she is "a piece of junk!"
