Simple Question
Posted by WigWag Workshop on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 9:41 AM

Good day Folks!

I was watching the DVD "Painting and Weathering Detail Castings".  He attaches the small casting to a piece of wood to hold it while painting the casting.  My question is, what do you use for attaching the small castings for painting?  It was not explained in the DVD.  What method, do you use for holding the small detail parts for painting?

Thanks in advance,

Steven

I've got a couple pieces of cardboard, like the bottoms of soft drink cases.  I wrap 2 inch masking tape across it and stick all my little parts on the tape.  This way I can hold the one pice of cardboard and run my airbrush across it and hit everything at once.

I've used white glue to attach small parts to a piece of sprue. Once painted, you just snap them *GENTLY* off the piece of sprue.

Sometimes I drill a small hole in an area that will be covered/out of site, maybe an attachment point, and either glue in a piece of wire or stick the part on a straight pin and hold it with a pair of hemostats to paint. You could also drill a hole where the part attaches and use the wire or pin to strengthen the join.
