my workhorse is the badger 155 , for really fine work the T&C Omni 5000, tho the badger gets pretty darn fine detail as well.

-Paasche Talon - my first legit airbrush. liked it a lot till

-Iwata Revolution CR - thought my talon was total crap. i love this brush

-Iwata Eclipse HP-CS - still need to test but i know im going to be pleased

This morning I got out and painted the tracks for the Tamiya M2A2 Bradley ODS.  I figured while I was at it I'd shoot a pic of my airbrushing area in my garage.

My neighborhood is still being built and the builders leave a LOT of scrap plywood around, so I went to the builder's office and got permission then went dumpster diving.  They said as long as I only took wood in or next to the dumpsters I could have as much as I want.

The Porter-Cable compressor ended up costing me $10.  I had $150 worth of Home Depot gift cards last year and after Christmas they had the compressor marked down to, you guessed it, $150.

The airbrush is a Paasche H; but for emergencies I also have a couple old Badger 350s.

I've only been airbrushing for about a year.

Here are the two airbrushes I currently have. The one on the left is a cheapie about $19.00 from China, I use it for applying future. The other is a badger.

Here is my compressor. $59.00 from Harbor Freight. Real noisy bout it works.

And a paint booth about $225.00. I consider this a great investment.

I owned an HP-CS and it sprayed on par with the Patriot 105 but not the Renegade Velocity, Krome, or even the Badger 100LG with a fine tip/needle. .

Passche Talon N Iwata HP-CR with a harbor freight compressor. currently hunting down a tank and ditching the talon for a badger 105.

Randy, take a good look at the Badger Renegade Krome before you replace the Talon. You already get the HP-CR which covers larger area well. You may need to go the more detail direction instead of another large area AB.

maybe a HP-CS.

Yes, the Iwata Eclipse HP-CS and the Badger Renegade Krome have similar detail capability. They have the same linear flow angle (tip angle) of 6.0 degrees. I have the 0.35 (standard) and 0.5 mm nozzle/needle sets for the HP-CS and found the difference to be rather small in actual use. I suspect that the Eclipse HP-CS will be similar to your Revolution HP-CR and a good upgrade if you want less overspray. The CS may be a little easier to clean with its self centering nozzle design. Since you mentioned the Patroit, I thought that you want to try the difference of a Badger vs. Iwata. The Badger Krome is one designed with modeler in mind and do a very good job to compete with the HP-CS in price and performance. Either the HP-CS or the Krome will need careful attention to paint thinning and are a little more prone to tip dry if using Acrylic, typical, not excessively so.

On the other hand, the Patriot is a much more forgiving airbrush due to the larger nozzle and very short needle taper. It tends to have a little more overspray, again not excessive for modeling. Some may like it better because it can dispense more paint quicker and less prone to tip dry. It may be a easier airbrush to learn with.

I measured most of the values above from my airbrush collection, except the Badger Renegade Rage and the Iwata Custom-Micro CM-B. These 2 are from published web articles and included here for reference purpose. The numbers above are a good indication of what the airbrush potentially can do in detail. But the actual depends on the manufacturer's implementation. Without saying, a lot more on the user's skill.

A case in point is the Neo for Iwata. With a very small 5 degrees linear flow angle, you should expect great details, right? Not too bad in that regard. The best made-in-China knock-off I have ever tried. An excellent value for the $38 price from Hobby Lobby. But the needle is rough and unpolished. Mine works fine, but there are too many reports of quality inconsistance.

I'm in the middle of moving from my appartment to a house, so I only unpacked the most treasured ones, my little Olympos collection.

And my Sil-Air 15D:

I guess that you are officially a Baficionado!

Yes sir. Badger to the death just like my Oakland Raiders. Wink

MikeV, it is an extremely unfair comparison and an insult to the Badger. I lost count on how many years the Raiders had missed the play-off and how many head coaches they had in the last 10 years. Crying In the mean time, Bedger had a few winners. Cool The most recent new airbrush, Renegade Krome, is definitely among the winners.

I posted my setup awhile back. Here it is if you are interested.

My inventory of airbrushes has changed. The Iwata Eclipse HP-CS is still my go-to airbrush, with the Harder & Steenbeck Evolution Silverline and Badger Krome as backup.

OK, here's mine - Sparmax twin with receiver, H&S Infinity with 0.15, 0.2, 0.4 & 0.6 needle / nozzle sets;

I do all my painting in the kitchen as it's got adequate ventilation & handiest of all, it's got a sink! The compressor sits on a foam pad inside one of the kitchen cupboards where the power cable & air hose are routed out of the way & I've fitted a bunch of under-cupboard halogen lamp units so that I can see what I'm doing.

With regards to the single / double action choice, I would say that the benefits of the double action far outweigh those of the single - yes the single is slightly easier to get used to, but there is a fair chance that you will outgrow it quickly & be on the market again for a double. Several manufacturers now no longer have single action brushes in their lineup...........

Hey guys, as I research and learn more about airbrushing, I thought it'd be a cool thing if the more experienced guys here could post some pictures of their equipment, set-ups and the like.  I'm still undecided on wether I should go the single or double action, or if I should use a compressor, or a refillable tank.

So post em if you got em!
