I'm glad it cleaned up so well for you Don! It sounds like you're back in business, better than ever! Wink

I cleaned up the booth yesterday.  I found not much junk on the top so let that go.  I cut pieces of 1/8 inch hardboard to size for the bottom, and two sides. I covered these in contact paper.  The bottom just lies in place, the  two sides are each held in with one screw.  So when the booth gets dirty in the future, I can take these pieces out, take off the old contact paper, and apply new contact, then replace them back in the booth.  And I should never have kept that old filter in so long, at less than three bucks for a new one.  The booth sure draws a lot better now!

I line my spray booth with large sheets of newsprint paper. I glued magnets to the inside of the spray booth and use other magnets to keep the paper nice and taught. Easy to replace as needed. The art teacher at my school was going to throw out the newsprint that had been sitting never used in her storeroom for 15 years. I have about a 3 foot stack of it. Comes in handy for all kinds of things.

I dont see why regular newspaper wouldn't work too.

I spray into the neck of a 1 gallon water bottle that has a tennis ball sized hole cut in one side. Most of the paint stays in the bottle, the rest goes out the hole and via the filter route. I find falling paint from the filter to be a problem since the filter is on the rear upper side of the booth.

I had that problem and I put up newspaper around the side (masked in place) so that I had a removable wall. I usually changed it after each project was complete as I use it test spray area for color matching. My problem is that my new project will not fit in the booth, apparently ships are larger than cars!

I agree, maybe a cardboard box would work as the cubical shape would catch most stray paint.

Don,

As an alternative to spraying directly at the filter or the sides, spray some scrap (paper, wood, plastic, whatever), something big enough to collect the paint.

Mistake with spray booth

I have such a buildup of paint on the walls of my spray booth that the vibration from the fan is causing flaking of dust and pieces of paint  that falls on the model :-(  I realize I have been making a big mistake.  When I clean the nozzle of a rattle can I aim the can at the sides, so that I maximize the life of the filter.  But the furnace filters I use in the booth only cost about three bucks a piece!  I am finding the difficulty of getting the spray booth sides clean far outweighs any savings from a slightly longer life for the filter!

I will now clean the nozzles by spraying directly towards the filter, and if I get the walls clean enough to stick down Contact paper, I will coat the booth with that so removing any paint on walls will be easier!

The biggest problem is the Krylon primer  I use. It is very full bodied, and covers scratches and sanding marks great!  But boy it sure builds up fast in the spray booth.
