Badger Paint

Anyone ever tried Badger acrylic paint? I tried some Saturday and was less than impressed with the results. Admittedly it was pretty cool in my basement, probably in the lower 50's, and that probably had a lot to do with it. The paint and model had been upstairs where it was pretty warm and I had a lamp over the work area to keep things from getting too cold.

It is supposed to be ready to spray out of the bottle, no thinning required. I tried it straight from the bottle, I thinned it to the consistency of water (with several attempts at different stages), I tried two air brushes and pressure from 10 to 25 psi. I never could get it to do anything decent. Out of the bottle at 20 psi worked best, but it was still pretty poor. It would just send "Sputters" of paint in the direction of the plastic, I had to clean the needle tip every few seconds, and had a terrible case of "Orange Peel" when it dried.

Same time, same basement, same airbrush, I shot some Tamiya on another model and it sprayed perfectly.

I'm pretty sure the temperature was most of the problem, but has anyone else tried this paint, and what were your results with it?

I too had a disastrous time with modelflex. Clogging, spitting, running.
I had mixed it with a battery -op mixer, strained it, tried straight from the bottle, and thinned 2:1. I tried it at 7, 10, 15, and 20 PSI with no difference. Thought maybe it was my old airbrush. ( Ordered a new Omni 4000,still waiting Sigh [sigh] ). Old Blind Dog also has had experience with it. Bottom line, I gave up on it.

No idea, Mike. I'll look when I get home. I got it at a store I don't often get to, and they didn't have Tamiya or MM acrylic. All they had was the Badger so I figured I'd give it a try. All I noticed was that it was acrylic.

You'll like the Omni, Kingbone. I have a 3000 and love it.

Scott,

It's probably the Model Flex if you bought it at a hobby shop.
I have not tried any Badger paints at all.
