Thanks for that, BlackSheep.  It appears there are many options, so I'll be experimenting around with them.

I use Model Master Black Detail Wash. Works pretty good in my opinion.

Thanks for the additional suggestion, Don.  I'll give that a try, too.

I often use a very dark gray wash, such as a wash made with Swartzgrau.

Thanks, Nathan and stik.  I usually use cheap acrylic craft paints for washes, so if I don't have any kicking around, I'll pick up a bottle of both.  I appreciate all the suggestions.

Raw umber gives a more mild look. Burnt umber will make the details really stand out...

Burnt umber, or similar browns work well. I have seen them used very effectively with zc yellow.

A Wash for Zinc Chromate Yellow
Posted by checkmateking02 on Sunday, April 27, 2014 3:54 PM

I would appreciate some advice about the color for a thin wash to bring out the details of zinc chromate yellow painted areas, like wheel wells, bomb bays, etc.

I'm thinking that a straight black wash might be too dark.  Maybe a dirty kind of brown?

I'd be grateful for any insights.  Thanks.
