Can I tint MM metalics or Floquil metalics?

I believe that Floquil is actually a lacquer-based paint.

Mineral spirits to thin.

Floquil is a heavy enamel base metallic paint that dries hard and can be masked w/ normal masking tape.Testors Metalizers can be used to creat panel shades .But; It is very hard to seal w/ flats and glosses.Even when you use Floquil sealers.Floquil is out of production and still out there to get because of a world wide stock left from the railroad guys.I use SN'J powder because I stocked up before they went out of production .I have about 100 assorted metallic powder bottles left.

Thanks for all the responses.  Gary, you actually answered the other question I had rattling around in my head.  I was wondering what I could use to thin Floquil.  I was starting to run some of the Old Silver through my airbrush and it just seemed to spit out.  It wasn't bad but it wasn't as smooth as other times when I used Floquil.  I was hoping that thinning it a tad would solve the problem but I think I determined that my airbrush just needed a good cleaning.

I ended up using MM metalics on my F-89 and for some strange reason, it's actually holding up perfectly in spite of all the panel masking I'm doing with it.  Granted, I'm "de-sticky-fying" it by using my fingers but not a single microdot of the MM metalic paint has lifted off.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.  99.999% of my builds involve pure luck more so than skill.

Yes Don, I do believe Floquil is lacquer-based paint.  I used to use Floquil thinner when I used it.   That is no longer available and the guys at King's Hobby in Austin said one could use lacquer thinner for the same result.

While MM paints can be mixed easily with each other, I'd try a test with the Floquil. It seems to be like no other brand.  Seems almost more like a lacquer than an enamel, and the thinner sure smells funny.  Try a mix and paint some scrap plastic with it- do not use on a good model unless you run the test first.

The only way to seal- gloss or flat the Floquil for a good result is to use non- spar varnish clear -flat or gloss.Thin30%

Yet.Even gloss brown for exhaust areas.
