I tried Mod Podge Matt spray last night on a clear gloss Laquer with poor results. I'm curious though what it will do on a enamel or a Future finish.

I'm hopeful about this product, but so far......Huh?

For many years now, all I've used for a flat clear is ModelMaster flat clear acrylic.  I've never noticed any issues with that.

Love Testors Dullcoat. I use several things for glosscoat, but Dullcoat is my go-to for matt finish.

I had used MM flat acryl a few times but it seemed almost too flat.  Left a slightly dusty or milky appearance.  Tried 1:1 MM semi-gloss and MM flat on my last build and really liked the result!

I found a rattle can of Matte Coating spray at Hobby Lobby. Tree house studio is the name on it. It comes in an 11oz can for $5.99 (before taxes of course). It is a clear acrylic spray used for several surfaces including plastic. So far I haven't had any problems with it.

Anyone try to mix Tamiya acrylic gloss with their flat base to make a flat coat. MM is my go to flat coat as I paint with acrylics mostly but I agree with the post above that it's almost too flat and almost makes the finish white and dusty. Looking for other acrylic options.

thanks

Huh,

So I literally just walked out of my LHS. I was looking too pick up some Tamiya X22 clear and some thinner. When I asked the owner for some Tamiya clear, he asked which one. Huh?

Hot off the shelf, X-86 Tamiya Flat clear. Hopefully it's as good as the rest of their paint line. I bought the only 2 bottles he had.

Let's see how it works.

I've tried ever "flat, dull, matte" finish that I've come across. Testors Dullcoat is still the best for that dead flat finish.

However, I have discovered that you do need to shake the can well. Especially if its been sitting unused.

Testors Dullcoat, but mine is in the old glass bottle I bought about ten years ago. I let the flat particles settle to the bottom, then sucked out about half of the solvent. I don't know why I did this. Now though, I can stir this up, and mix it with some lacquer thinner to shoot through my airbrush. Flattest flat I've ever seen and dries almost instantly. Love it. I'll be sad when it runs out.

I've tried Tamiya XF-86 Flat clear and found it to be still a little semi gloss rather than matte.

Swanny has some usage ratios on his "The Complete Future" page;

I did this too but can't honestly tell you if it made any difference.

I believe the original intent was to get an even flatter flat by reducing the ratio of solvent to flattening agent (the stuff at the bottom).

I've also heard that you can overdo it and get a white crusty deposit.
