Good find at Harbor Freight
Posted by 7474 on Thursday, November 6, 2014 6:09 PM
Im in need of an airbrush so after walking into Harbor Freight looking for a compressor/air tank I found these airbrush tools. Looks like the airbrush is a double-action siphon feed, but knowing the quality of their tools I don't think the airbrush would last long. Does anyone have any feedback on them?

Hi 7474,

Their airbrushes are decent  and offer a lot of bang for the buck especially for $21 however I don't feel they are a replacement for a good quality Badger or Iawata.   Check out the customer reviews on their site.

Buying a cheap AB would end up with costing you more.  Buy a high quality AB (Iwata, Badger, H&S or Grex) and it will serve you for a long, long time.

I have, and used for several years, that HF Deluxe AB. As RX7850 says, they do offer big bang for the buck. Mine is quite old now but still works well. I don't use it because I went gravity feed a number of year ago. Of course there are difference from the 'higher priced' brands but as a first AB I don't think it's a bad deal. Yes, I have H&S, Grex, Iwata and Badger brushes as well (all gravity feed) but never had a problem with the HF one. Buy the best brush you can afford but if you don't know whether you want gravity or siphon feed or 0.35mm nozzle/needle or etc. the HF one is a good start and not a lot of wasted money.

PS I also have, use and like the airbrush holder.

Cleaning stations are pretty easy to make from a glass jar with a plastic lid, and a couple of short pieces of 3/4 or 1 inch pvc pipe.

I agree with Don. I use an old empty jelly, jam jar. Once it's full, I can take to a local Waste Management Center where they will take old paint cans, oil, and other household chemicals for proper disposal. Oh yeah, it's free too. LOL!

I use, and started back into the hobby with, the Central Pneumatic AB, My old reliable Paasche AB was missing pieces and I didn't want to spend a mint replacing them. All the builds I present on this forum are painted with the HF AB. The fine detail work is painted with the "Perfect Painting Tools 0.2mm Dual-Action HD-130", another cheep AB I found on that auction site.

This Christmas, however I've requested the Badger 105 or equivalent, an improvement.

Also, I would go with the hanger, but ixnay the cleaning bottle.

BTW I'm getting the Badger because we can find at Michaels and get it with a 50% coupon.

What can I say, I'm cheep, I'm married.

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

The 105 is a great airbrush with the added benefit of being easy to afford!

I had a Pasche airbrush until a year ago, I need something for a few months until I can afford something better like the Iwata that I want. Now to find an inexpensive air source, other than those cans of propellant.

Glad to hear you are happy with the airbrush,

I ought to pick up one of those cleaning bottles.

Would be nice if Harbor Freight offered a gravity feed version of that airbrush.Hmm

I had been thinking of doing something similar, but with my bench time cut back so severely over the last two years, it might be quicker to use the next available 20 pct off coupon and buy the cleaning station.
