"Humbrol Clear is horrible, it destroys everything I use it on".

Not surprised, Humbrol varnish and humidity don't mix, go's hazy.

Some stuff that might be interesting.

It's not remotely like Pledge or its derivitives by a large margin, I should know as I used it and its useless.

The product that modelers in other parts of the world use maybe the same, the stuff in Australia is not.

Alclad II Aqua Gloss is an acrylic based high gloss product  which you can AB prior to decals and with the added benefit of dipping your clear parts if you so care.

Locally manufactured Pledge and it's spin off products are is not longer available in Australia, it went out of production several years ago.

Hi,

I found Pascoes "Long Life" floor polish at Bunnings $11.75 for a liter https://www.bunnings.com.au/long-life-1l-self-shining-floor-polish_p4460498

I used it on enamel and acrylics and it gives a satin shine and a very hard surface to protect the paint.
I have painted over it both enamels and acrylics
I have used Microscale Matt coat to get a matt finish
I used puttys over it.
No issues so far

To test: Decals, Canopies

It works good in humid conditions as my garage is very humid in winter.
Humbrol Clear is horrible, it destroys everything I use it on.
Microscale gloss/satin/matt works really well but is expensive.

Micro mesh is great for sanding clear parts as you probably already know Big Smile.

That went quick, the aqua gloss reads just like the Humbrol clear, I must try it.

Love BNA model world.

You do realise that this thread is over two years old...

If your after a product similar to what has been discussed try Alclad II Aqua Gloss.

Good luck.

Hey Chris you wouldn't happen to know the name of the Tamils product you were talking about? I tried TS80 on my first model after not doing any modelling for years and it frosted my canopy.

Lessoned learned there.

Cheers.

Hi Roland.

Have a look here: cs.finescale.com/.../159130.aspx

I love the Humbrol clear range and from what Iv'e heard it seems to be the same as pledge or very close, what you see in this Humbrol video is spot on:

www.youtube.com/watch

the only thing is DO NOT use it when it's humid or you will get the white haze the same as other varnish finishes BUT if you do, and I learnt this from experience, go over it again in better conditions and it will fix it no problem.

Give it a go.

Cheers from Mick.

Hi,

Thanks for some clarification.

Humbrol seems to sell 3 different ones, gloss/satin/matt 125ml for $15 AUD

Tamiya has X-22, 10ml for $4

Polish-up has the pledge one, 800ml for $26 (with shipping)

Maybe it's worth getting the polish up one.

Pledge is that gloss/satin or matt? as in the humbrol ones?

The humbrol one probably last me some years anyway.

And humbrol doesn't take up all the space...

Decision, decisions,

Actually, now that you mention it, somebody in my club said the Humbrol Clear is a near direct match for Future.

Whilst i agree Tamiya may be the same, it's the pricing which is different.

Even at $27 for 800mL online for a bottle of pledge,  Hence it's far cheaper to buy it under a different name if you want to be dipping canopies.

I agree with Chuck.  There's nothing special about Future.  Tamiya clear acrylic does the same thing.

Pledge / Future is just clear acrylic, nothing magic about it.  Tamiya sells it, and I imagine other model paint brands do, too.

Gimme a pigfoot, and a bottle of beer...

Hey rsm.gbg, i don't think Pledge One Go is available anymore.

As Phil_H said, it was discontinued a few years back. I wrote to Johnson's back in 2011 and they said it was being re-formulated and would be released again, but never happened.

I'm pretty sure this is, in essence, Future (but now re-branded).  Fairly certain this is the US import version, not the one that was available in Australia.

ok, thanks.

Any idea if the real pledge is available anywhere in Australia?

Is Pascoes "Long Life" as good as Pledge?

I use only enamels anyway.

No, it's not the same thing. This one has detergents in it & isn't suitable as a clear coat. There used to be a product "Pledge One-Go" which was an acrylic coating, but this was discontinued several years ago. the nearest supermarket product is Pascoes "Long Life" floor polish. I can't recall seeing this in Coles for several years, but it's still available as far as I know.

Note that this can be unfriendly to acrylic paints and may cause runs/fading.

Pledge in Australia
Posted by rsm.gbg on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 1:12 AM

Hi,

I want to give pledge a go but it is hard to find in Melbourne Australia.

Coles have this product: http://shop.coles.com.au/online/national/wood-magic-cleaner-floor-liquid

Is it the same thing? it is yellowish instead of clear.
