Just to follow up -- I've confirmed that what I am seeing is apparently normal. Future is not actually crystal clear, even when new, at least to my eyes. It does have an ever so slight yellow tint to it. Curious to hear if anyone else observes this.  Put it side by side in a clear container, next to an identical container of clear, purified water, and you should be able to see the slight difference I'm referring to.

modelmaker66

i am using some future that now has to be several tears old with no problems.

Yup, the bottle I am using is probably at least 12 years old now, if not a few years more than that. Still working as good as new. Of course it is original "Future" and not "Pledge with Future Shine". When this runs out in a few more years I'll have to get the new stuff. But at my present work rate that is not in the immediate future (no pun intended)...

I would spend a few bucks and buy a fresh bottle of Future, if in doubt.  No sense in wrecking the model!

Gimme a pigfoot, and a bottle of beer...

From pictures I'm seeing online, the slight tint I'm observing actually appears to be normal. I'm going to look at some new product on the store shelves to confirm this.

I am nearing the decal phase of my latest build (the classic AMT TOS USS Enterprise kit), and am planning to first airbrush the model with a coat of Future to prevent silvering, as the ship's hull, saucer, and engines are based painted with a custom mix of Tamiya flat paints.

I have a half-full bottle of Johnson's "Pledge with Future Shine" Premium Floor Finish that has been stored out of the light inside a cabinet for I would guess about 8 years.

My question is, does Future go "bad" after a while?  Also, is it supposed to be crystal clear and/or does it yellow over time?

Looking at it under a few different lighting conditions, it does seem to have taken on an ever, ever so slight yellow tint.  Which is to say that is is practically clear, but not completely.  At first I thought it might have simply been the plastic bottle it came in that yellowed, but when I decant the Future into a clear container, it still appears to have a very faint yellow tint.  If you weren't looking for it, you might not notice it, but it's there.

Is this normal, or would you suggest I buy a new bottle of the stuff?  I also have a bottle of Tamiya Clear Gloss I could use instead, but that bottle is even older.  :)

Thanks for your advice,
Kizzy
