Problem with masking and removing paint…

Unfortunately you may not have much choice. Did you happen to read the ‘Best Primer’ thread? Seems Vallejo black primer doesn’t adhere very well. 

Coating with Pledge really isn’t going to do much to prevent the paint from lifting off the primer when you pull up the tape  (FYI Pledge Floor Care does not contain wax - it’s acrylic. Wax would definitely not be good to paint over)

That's correct. It's the primer to plastic bond that is the problem, no amount of additional coats of anything will help. Take a look at that thread mentioned above. I've never used Vallejo paint, but their primer sounds to be less than great.

Heavy Vallejo user chiming in here.

Thogh Vallejo is my primary paint, their primer, as already mentioned, is fit neither for masking nor sanding. I have no idea what folk use it for.

Also, Model Master acrylics also have a bad track record of pulling up with masking tape.

As many have mentioned already, you need a good primer that bites into the substrate.

I did pretty much the same thing on my first model back from hiatus, seems a common thing. Even messed up the same paint scheme as you, except me on a TBM.

Solid choice.

.4mm should be fine, I wouldn't go any finer.
