For me there are so many better choices now days. Tamiya, Vallejo, AK, Ammo just to name a few. If i’m going to spend money I would rather it be on a better quality product. I do still use the MM line for enamels though.

I still use 'em over some primer and really haven't had any problems as of yet. I do have the consistency change up in the jars over time though.

And I'm sorry in advance to be petty, but I just hate the paper liners in the lids. They drive me batty.

Maybe this has been suggested before but when the paper gasket begins to fail I remove it and replace it with one made from soft plastic. I use food container lids. A lid from a cottage cheese or sour cream container for example. Use the paper gasket as a pattern and trace around it. Cutting it out with scissors gets you close enough. Thicker, softer plastic is best.

Interesting idea. Thank you for takng the time to post it.

Like Vol said, goes gummy.

I really prefer enamels for just about all applications.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Like everyone else, I have found the Model Master acrylic line to be inferior to their enamel line. Or to many other acrylic lines. Colors don’t match to their enamel equivalents, adhesion issues, tip dry, translucence when hand brushed, shelf life issues.... colors are introduced and then discontinued... they have earned their less than stellar reputation.

Because Tamiya

Tamiya... meh. Not the most spot accurate of colors (FS, RLM, etc...) despite their limited range of color selections. Don't get me wrong, Tamiya is a good paint line but as I said - limited color selections.

It's good paint, IMO. They need a better insert for the lid for a better shelf life and ease of cleaning. I wonder if there is an alternative material we could use to improve things.

I once painted a Mustang spinner in MM Acryl, but I messed up the masking so I decided to strip it. For fun I tried to use masking tape to pull the paint off (everyone says adhesion is poor, right?). But I used the stickiest tape I have and the stuff wouldn't budge. I was amazed.

I wish my LHS would carry the newer colors (the railroad colors from the old Polly/Floquil line).

In my limited experience with MM Acryls, they didn't brush or spray very well, and the adhesion even on Tamiya and Alclad primers was poor. I say limited because I moved on to other paints that work much better. MM enamels are a whole differant story and I use them pretty regularly; good color range, consistent quality and they dry to a very hard finish.

I had adhesion problems when I started using MM Acryls, left me bitter and I decided not to move forward with them.

And I'm sorry in advance to be petty, but I just hate the paper liners in the lids. They drive me batty.

If I'd have known my backside from a hole in the ground and used a proper primer, maybe I'd still be using MM Acryls, who knows.

I'm just reporting my personal experience. I'm no paint expert, folks here have lots more experience.

I think we have plenty of folks here using it and liking it.

I've used it almost exclusively for 35 years, but I'm starting to get tired of it, especially when I airbrush lately. It doesn't seem to respond to it's own thinner properly to me. I also don't like the fact that it changes consistency and dries up way too soon. I'm sure they keep changing the formula due to regulations or cost, but it's getting me frustrated.

Model Master Acrylic Paints - Why No Love?
Posted by Spectre on Saturday, May 12, 2018 3:40 PM

Everywhere I go online there is no love for Model Masters paints. These are the most redily available paints, but no one cares? Are these paints just that poor of quality or is there just that much annimosity toward Tester / Rustoleum?

Cheers
