Chemistry is entirely different in most cases. Ratios are more often by mass, or moles.

Welsh yes the ratios in paint for modeling are volumetric.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

A ratio of 5:1 is just what it says, 5 parts this to 1 part that.

Just like military mission planning. An attacking force should have a ratio of 3:1 over a defending force for successful outcome.

I have never taken chemistry, so I don’t know where the numbers that you speak of come from. But basic mathematic ratios usually just as they are written.

F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!

U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!

N is for NO SURVIVORS...

Basically it's a ratio for mixing paint to create a certain color. For example, 5:1 ratio is simply:

5 parts of Olive Drab, 1 part White will produce you a lighter shade of Olive Drab

I didn't need a chemistry degree to figure that out........Whistling

Hello,

When I read 5:1 to me it means of the 5 parts 4 are x and 1 is y. That is learned from my chemistry degree. Since this is modeling does it mean in this instance 5 parts of x and 1 part of y

Thanks
