Testor's Enamels?
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, April 13, 2004 11:27 AM
Hi Guys! I finally painted my M2 interior last night. I decided to go with the Testor's enamels because I'm switching over to acrylics and I want to try and use as much old paint up as possible. I hate to waste things, plus I had allready mixed the color. Anyhow, I was wondering how long I have to wait before I can touch it up? I mean I airbrushed it last night with a few coats, but that was in about a 1hr. time frame. So it's been drying now for about 12 hrs. Would it be okay to go ahead and touch-up the lighter areas now or do I have to wait for the paint to completely cure? Thanks, --SpencerSmile [:)]

12 hours should be fine, especially since you are going to airbrush the same color back on. If you were going to hand brush a different color I'd say wait for at least 24, but you should be OK.

One way to tell is to smell it. If you can still smell enamel paint it hasn't cured completely.

I've always found that flat colors dry and set alot faster. And I agree since its the same paint you should have no problemMy 2 cents [2c] Headphones [{(-_-)}]

Thanks Drew, Everything turned out fine you guys. Now I have to sand a little and paint the seat cushions. I'm trying to decide on black or the brown. I've seen both.

QUOTE: I'm trying to decide on black or the brown. I've seen both.

Pick the color that is either 1) Most common or 2) Contrasts best with your interior. Having everything the same color is boring, so when you have a choice add a little something that will pop out from everything else. A little red knob or amber indicator on a dash, khaki seats when everything else is OD, something like that.

Definitely do the smell test. And as others said, a flat colour tends to dry a lot faster, where gloss coats take much longer.
I haven't used testors enamels in years, but from what I remember, with flats, I'd only allow a few hours between coats. Gloss, however, I left for 24 hours before touchups.

Thanks fellas, Yeah Scott, I plan to add as much detail as I can plus there are quite a few dacals with this kit and I have a brand new bottle of Future that hasn't even been cracked yet. Oh wait, my wife experimented with it on one of her kit windshields the other day. Oh well. Hey you guys! Scott I think I asked you this before, but can't remember. Anyway, when using future (airbrushing) do you dilute it or shoot it straight OTB? Thanks -Spencer
