1st aircraft primer question

I checked out some of his youtubes. Good experiments on colors on wings, etc. Hes got some black undercoating experiments.....  I almost sent a message to see if he'd do some with blacks, blue / blacks on top....  Ive been messing around trying some vallejo model color and model air's.  Seems the little I e done, dark colors are harder than the usual yellows, olive drabs, etc.  The 1st mistake I made was putting Mr color thinner leveling in w/ them to thin.....  Ugly. Later, VMC thinner with a touch of water. A little better, not much. Trying on primed spoons. Starting to get a little discouraged......  

Doog posted here when he first got back into the hobby. I think he's still a member actually. Could be wrong. You can find him on Facebook too. I think he's a pretty good guy and he's learned a lot. Put a lot of time into it. He can be pretty colorful at times. Lol  There are things that he promotes but he's a straight shooter. 

If you have a decent airbrush you can just post-shade and not worry about the primer.

When I shade a dark finish I do post-shade, or sometimes drybrush.

Tks Wingman.  I coincidently came across Doogs last night - hes got some good stuff!  I think just what im try to do except his video he use a metal paint.  But the idea is the same i think.  And he was using black.

I tried to reply to this yesterday and got bit by these stupid popup ads. Grrr...

If you're still looking for tips on this subject, and if you haven't already, look up Doogs Models on YouTube and look through his videos. IMO at least, he has some decent ideas and suggestions. He and Flory are about the only ones I pay any attention to.  :-)

Hey Bill Tks -  would you have leads or suGgestions in how to make the paint, model ext. a little more interestin, let's say shadow wise, etc. using this  color black and gray primer?  

When you choose black, stick with dark gray.

Tamiya NATO Black is about as dark a gray as I like.

I don't think the primer color is much of a factor if the base color coat is black (dark gray).

As a fabric covered aircraft, the finish was dope which didn't fade like paint.

Ok, still looking around to figure this out.....  I see some of the tank guys started with a light color - white or grey - then followed with the dark color. Thoughts?  Still no clue.....  Tks.
