I picked up some of Vallejo's poly varnish but it seems too thick to spray out of the bottle. Any ideas on what to thin it with?

Don't thin it. Vallejo say use .4mm or larger needle, I've used .5. Like most Vallejo products, sprays best at 20-25 PSI. If you have a fan pattern airbrush, even better. (I've not even tried it with mine, yet, as it has worked fine for the small jobs with a conventional .5mm needle/nozzle)
I've been experimenting with it off and on for the past couple of months, and liking it. I got it to try over chrome finishes, specifically Alclad and Molotow, and it's so far the best of all of the clears I've tried for that.
Seems to be a very nice clear for general use, too.

If you do need to thin polyurethane, or for cleanup, mineral spirits works.

I sprayed it using a Badger 105 airbrush with a general purpose needle at 20 psi. Needle size wasn't listed on the packaging but I figured a GP needle would spray a larger pattern so thats what I used. The varnish sprays very slowly, acting like it's too thick. I guess the value of this is that it makes you apply light coats. What I ended up with was a very even coating and a nice shine.
Thin it with Vallejo thinner and add their flow improver,has never failed me it's a very good acrylic clear.I have used all three matte,gloss and satin. Formula is 10-2-2
