I was going to build a booth, but then chickened out (I DO want my security deposit back), and ended up buying an Artograph 1520.

Anyway, check out http://www.briansmodelcars.com... there's an article somewhere in the tutorials section about how to size a fan.

As to the explosion hazard, I do remember a post awhile ago asking if anybody had their homemade booth blow up on them, and one guy replied yes. (www.finescale.com/fsm/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=892) (all fixed now)

But I've also seen several posts/websites where people do use bathroom fans or kitchen range fans to provide the ventilation.

I don't know of any way to quantify the risk (I can't say something like only 1% blow up)... It's up to you how much risk you are willing to take on

The colors will be the same, a spraybooth will only catch the excess paint and remove fumes. The guy was pulling your leg.

remember, a normal moter is ok, may present some risks, but if you want to be sure, get a squirrel cage-type moter, and the mount the motor as close to the booth as you can, for it to be most effective.

i saw that article on arc a couple of weeks/months ago, its pretty simple. in basic form, it's :
1. get clear plastic box, as big as you need , something like tupperware
2. cut a hole in the back, and mount the moter
3. get one of those foil-insilated tube-thingy's (forgot name) the same diameter as the fan, and long enough to go out a window.
4. enjoy.

have fun

Can anyone help please i live in a small flat and own a nice new airbrush, but i havent used it as i have been warned that i will need a spraybooth to get rid of the fumes and paint particles, or my flat will end up a different colour and smell like paint store. Please can anyone direct me where to look for tips or information on building your own booth??? or even where to loacte a moderately costing sparybooth.
I have seen a homemade spraybooth made out of a clear storage box and a bathroom extractor fan.
I have purchased the storage box but i am worried about the explosion hazard of the extractor fan which i am set to purchase. Please can anyone help also if it would be dangerous if i used a bathroom extractor fan, will it explode or catch fire, anyone tested this??
Many thanks Andy w
