keep it away from some of the older Tamiya vinyl tracks if you do armor. Used it as a wash on the tracks of a Japanese 97 Chi Ha and in a few days they were disintigrated.

When I contacted Tamiya they couldn't give me any insight as to why this happened although they had heard about it before.

Then thin the enamels with the mineral spirits but NOT the acryls.
Use water or a 50/50 mix of water and isopropyl alcohol to thin the acrylics with.

QUOTE: i use the model car paints that u get from walmart if u wanna know what kinda paint i will be thinnin

Just make sure they are enamels and not acrylics as onyan already mentioned.
Being that they are from Walmart, my guess is that they are Testors enamels but I could be wrong.

Yes you can, but make sure you use it on oil-based paints like MM and Tamiya enamels only. You CANNOT use it to thin aqueous (water-based) model paints like Tamiya and Gunze acrylics -- just wanted to be clear about this since you said "other model paints". Mineral spirits and another product called turpentine are good thinners for oil-based paints, though the latter smells really bad IMO. I use commercially-sold mineral spirits myself and it works just as well as the branded enamel thinners. And a lot cheaper, too. Hope this helps.

Cheers,
onyan

It should work fine.
Try it on a scrap model or sheet of styrene and see how it works for you.
