Gip was warning you of ingesting the solvents and that is why he said that.

I use a 24 volt brushless fan that is used in the telecommunicatons industry to cool electronics in such applications as Telepone supstation equipment and the like...

looks like a black plastic computer fan but about 8 inchs in size.. got myself some discards when i was working in the industry.. the design will have to be modified depending on the type of fan you use.. be sure to use a brushless type.. ( they dont generate sparks when running) if you get a fan powerful enough you could mount it in the window.. to pull the air from the box ... the fan is just mounted on top of the box over a hole the size of the fan.and I taped another box I cut down to be about 8 inchs of dead air space around the fan to stick the hose in.. not enough space and the air kicks back through the fan on ya.. or on me anyways..

and as for what the other fellow said about the fumes just being concentrated in the box and the box will start to smell... well I dont' mind that as long as the wife can't smell it while i'm painting i'm happy.. and when the box gets too.. "ripe" i'll just replace it... they are basicly a free item..

and if over time I find it does't do that good i'll think about cutting a hole in the appartmant wall to my laundry room in the side wall of my closet and duct it out the dryer vent again... LOL

Cool Idea, What kind of fan did you use and where did you purchase it? And chance of getting a picture of the fan area. My son built me a booth to spay in, but nothing to move the air from the room. I have a window near by that I can vent out of.

Unfortunately, the organic vapors in your design are not being trapped and held. Essentially unprocessed air is being redistributed back into your room. Vapors not immediately escaping back into the room are being concentrated in the box and diffusing through the cardboard and along the floor; the torn filter components inside your box are actually serving no useful purpose. Ten to one, if you're not smelling vapors as you paint now, you probably will be in the near future.

Delbert, that's a step up from my unvented cardboard box set up!

I just showed the picture of your set up to my wife. She says it looks like something out of Apollo 13!!!!

Good job, Delbert. Not pretty but it's results that count Cool [8D] I like the duct tape, I personally can't build something without a lot of duct tape and (if I'm lucky) some baling wire thrown in for good measure.

I noticed that you have white backing in it to add some light at the rear. That's a good idea to. I wonder if a piece of aluminum foil might reflect more light though.

Well done!

hello all just thought i'd show this project in case anyone out there is looking for idea.

after 2 years of painting in my laundry closet which has just enough room for a washer and some shelves I decided i needed a paint booth i could store under my new workbench in my new Model building closet. the main problem is there is no way to vent to the outside.

I started with a cardboard box the size i wanted my booth to be.. attached my fan.. built up an 8 inch hood above the fan for the air collection area... put a hole in top of the hood slightly smaller than the dryer vent i used so that it fits in snug without any tape.

I took another box that fit under my desk just right.. cut a simular hole in top for the dryer vent... poked some holes in one side with a screwdriver.. taped a cheap ventilation filter from the hardware store over the holes.
then tore up a bunch of cheap vent filters and stuffed the box.. leaving a open space around where the dryer vent enters.

when not in use i just pull the dryer vent and store the booth box with the vent hose and power supply for my fan in it and all fits under the desk.

Works great just sprayed 10 tires black for my tamiay duce and a half and my wife's sensitive nose didnt' smell a thing..

now i can paint in comfort.. beats standing in front of the washer trying to spray with the folding door handles in your back......Big Smile [:D]
