Stinger,

you can also brush the Future on if you havent got spraying it worked out yet... use a wide soft tipped brush, brush slow as not to cause bubbling and it will do the job! I tend to spray my model but go back and brush over where the decals will go to make sure it is a smooth glossy surface...

What's the best way to thin Future for airbrushing?
Thanks.

Rick - I thought of cutting out the black decal stripes due to the complicated curves around the rear boom intake scoops. There'a a pic of the decal sheet on the other thread (see link in top post) and you can just make out the shape of the decals for that area. Just looking at the scoops gives me a headache thinking about how hard it would be to mask around them.

thanks again

I use Floquil Reefer white & apply Future over it for decaling. The paint build up with Future is minimal. Floquil does not make a gloss white to my knowledge, nor does Vallejo. Gloss white is available from ModelMaster, but I refuse to use it after some bad experiences with it. For the Black stripes, why not mask & paint them ? Would likely be easier than trying to use the decals.

Personally, I'd just use the Reefer White and gloss coat it. I don't really know if they make it in a gloss, but it's pretty easy to lay down a coat or two of Future and decal over that.

Another white paint question
Posted by stinger on Monday, December 20, 2004 9:09 AM
Another thread that I started has led to a topic of off color decals for the invasion stripes on my Hasa P-38J.

http://www.finescale.com/fsm/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=32141.

It seems that the white of the stripes was intentionally printed in a "dirty" greyish sort of color. I want them to be a nice bright white, so I've decided to paint the white myself, then cut out and apply the black stripes, which leads to my question:

Would you use Floguils Reefer White (flat), then gloss coat that for the decals, or does Floquil make a gloss Reefer White? I hear good things about Vallejo's white, too. Do they make a gloss white?

I would prefer to spray a gloss white to minimize the thickness buildup of a gloss coat in between.

thanks,

stinger
