Round toothpicks are also good for stirring paint.

When you shake the paint with BB's the BB's breaksup the thicker pigments on the bottom. Just like spray paint (aka 'rattle' cans), the rattle is caused by a metal ball that helps mix the paint. Paints consist of basically pigment and a 'suspension liquid;' when you paint, the carrier helps you smooth the stuff on, and then evaporates leaving the pigment, which gives you the color and covering power. Don't mix the paint enough, all you get on top is mostly the suspension liquid.

If you have a dremal or like you already have a paint stirrer... get some of the q-tips with the long wooden sticks like you see in the doc's office... cut one off a bit longer than your bottle is deep... take a knife and whittle two sides of one end to make it flattened.. stick the round end in your dremal and the flat end in your bottle and turn on........

Thanks, I'll try that. By the way, where's a good place to buy cheap BB's? What is the exact science behind this anyway?

I've seen a mini paint shaker on the net for around $25. May fix your problem. I thought about pruchasing this myself.

I haven't had any problems with MM black, but the white is bad. I've switched to Floquil Reefer White and had no problems wth that. If you can get some I highly reccomend it.

Also, take full advantage of MA Cooke's advice, it's good and should be followed.

First, stir the paint very thoroughly (use the handle end of a paintbrush), then stir some more, then shake. Some advise against this next step, but I put in 8 to 10 BB's, stainless steel BB's. Those help to mix more thoroughly, in my opinion.

Shaking alone is not enough. Even with the BB's, I stir first, then shake. James Bond would be outraged.

Maybe it's me, but do the Model Master flat black and flat white paints not cover anywhere near as good as their other colors? I've shaken up the bottle plenty, so that's not the problem, but I don't know what is. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance.
