Airbush technique resources sticky?
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, March 21, 2005 7:44 AM
Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the advice on what airbrush etc to get. Have now got a Badger 155 and a good compressor. Can't believe how much better the Badger is compared to my old Revell standard airbrush.

Anyway, what do you all think about making a stickied thread with all of the different resources people have found that covers airbrushing techniques, tutorials etc?

you'll love that brush! I have one and it is a joy to use... let us know how it works for you! BTE: just something I picked up... I tend to use my metal color cup almost exclusively except for broad coverage... it seems to work better and it is a lot easier to clean!

Yeah, I'm really liking it at the moment. am a bit crap with it, though.

Well, I'm sure it'll come through practice.

Actually, I do have a separate query: when preshading camouflage patterns, do you:

1 spray base colour (e.g. lightest camoflage colour)
2 pre shade
3 blend preshade with more base colour
4 spray second camo colour
5 other camo colours etc

doesn't the pre sahde get lost under the other camo colours?
hope this is clear.

cheers all

James -

I don't pre-shade but a friend of mine here does exclusively... he preshades the bare model, lightly paints over the model till decent coverage is attained (concentrating on the panels between the preshading for the most part) re preshades over areas a second color will go over then sprays that color lightly as well... concetrating on the inner panel spaces. He then seals it with Future and does any other weathering he wants.

If you want, pop in on the Battle of Britain or Midway group builds as there are several people in the middle of the painting phase of their planes and they have examples of the preshading in the photos there...

Good luck!!

thanks, I'll have a look at those, although my first airbrush project is going to be a single colour scheme, with preshade and weathering. I've found a crappy games workshop tank to inflict this on.

Anyway, back to my original question - what do you more experienced people think of creating a stickied thread for turorials, techniques etc?

I've found it takes a lot of searching to find this stuff,

James

P.S. to start off with, what about www.scaleworkshop.com

that's something to throw up to the moderaters/editors. it's a good idea but they might have a different take on it...
