you can also use a soft wire brush (and small) to GENTLY abrade off paint on walkways and where sand or such would have worn the paint away... but yeah... lots of people use the silver undercoat to simulate wear on aircraft...

if you spray acrylic on top of the silver you can use a toothpick usually to pick off pieces of paint around panels and such without scratching the model...

Several modelers use salt to mask off areas; I attached a link to the first one I could find:

Krylon on Plastic

So I am building a 1:32 scale model, and my plan is to spray the body of the plane in Silver Krylon spray paint, (outside of course) this will be my primer (unless airbrushing a Model Masters silver would be better) then I intend on painting the model as usual, then I will use a needle or something to scratch away the top coat to reveal the silver. So does anyone have any words on whether this weathering technique will even work. If so, how would I go about scratching the top coat without engraving the whole model?
