Hey Miguel,

Welcome to the forum...

In my opinion, your artistic background will help somewhat with airbrushing, but not significantly. The learning curve for using an airbrush is much like a "bell curve" for most modelers. Everyone gets the "basics" fairly quickly...paint mixtures, air pressures, the physical handling of the brush. Then things get a little tougher...subtle feathering, multiple opaque coats, extremely fine detail work. These are all things that can take months, if not years, to truely master. In the long run, I don't think you'll have any problems with airbrushing and should jump in and join the fun...you won't regret it.

an artists eye will help you when painting, not so much the technique but the visualizing of the over all project as you move along.

It's not that hard to learn, once you learn the feel for how much paint your brush can put out and what air pressure is comfortable for you to spray at. My suggestion would be get an old milk jug and practice on that a little bit. Try to make the finest lines possible and try to cover a larger area with an even coat (not causing drips in one area and the jug showing through in others) then move on to an old junk or inexpensive model. Just try doing a simple color scheme and get it as even as possible. (a nice solid color like OD Green or Navy Blue/Grey, white, yellow and silver are more difficult to master so best left for when you learn how to handle it)

I do fairly good with the airbrush now, although I am no master by any means, and I learn something new every time I use it! I saw go for it... it's something I think almost everyone can learn, there is no magic to it (for most people, a few can do magic with the thing!!!) just practice!!!

I too am just learning, all I can say is.. It's a skill! it needs to be learnt, but the results from an "ok" airbrush job will blow away a pretty good brush job! I've done a couple of items on my model and a few test items that were not quick enough to run away before being sprayed, lol. read lots! then read more! forewarned and all that!
It is not as easy as just pick up and spray, but it is going to make your kits, that much better. And you'll save money in the long run, as you don't use so much paint, lol
