This is what you need boys.

Look at the bottom boxes and look at the thinning and pressure topics. Well worth it.

Well, thinner is not the answer, made it ...uhhh, i dunno how to explain it, too wet?? so, to get rid of the spatters, the important thing for me is the high pressure, of course with the normal thinning, but again, from what I have read, it varies from AB to Ab, from one type of paint to another, even the same paint bottle may not produce the same results over a period of time! so, for me right now, the best I can do comes from a thinner/paint ratio of 60/40 and around 10-12 psi. Now, if I can just get my hand to move when I depress the triggerBanged Head [banghead]!

O.K., just did it! It made a WORLD of diff! still got some microscopic spats but I think a leetle bit more thinner might take of that problem?? But , the diff is like nite and day!Wink [;)] like I say, I am just a beginner, so, anything I have to say should be taken with Alka-seltzer.. I mean Salt, yeah, salt! anyway, thx Steve for confirming what I read, now, all that is needed is to compress 20 yrs of experience into... right now!!!Tongue [:P] Practice, practice, OHH, hush up! Now to see if a little thinner can make it nice and smooth like Taped Shut [XX]. Hmm, I went up to 10 psi, maybe a little more pressure will make it perfect, might try that b4 I put more thinner in it.

Cya, and have FUN!

Yep I find that if you turn the pressure up you can get tighter more controlled lines, the only thing is you have to be more nimble with your hands by making sure you don't stay on a spot to long!

Hmmm, thx Steve, I just bought a Iwata Eclipse today and am trying to get used to it, I have a Badger Crescendo , but it just wasnt doin' it for me, I will try the high pressure, I have been using low, 2-8 psi, and getting varied results, I am FAR from being any good at ABing, and am reading and bugging people that I can corner to get some advice, I am getting the little tiny spatters also, from all that I have read, like you I need to turn up the pressure, going to go try it in a sec, just wanted to see what you guys had to say and here you are saying basically what I need to know! This is a subject I could talk ALL day long on, I thought it was the thinning mix but it just got runny from too much, only thing left is the air pressure, hope it works, I think I will come back to this thread some more and say what is going on with mine.
OLSEN, Hi there. Man, I am not an expert like you and steve, but it seems from everything you have said, i.e., you have done EVERYTHING to stop the spatter, it might be you have inadvertantly bent your AB tip! It's been known to happen , even right after I..oops, I mean someoneWhistling [:-^] buys it. LOL, just kidding, but I do know it doesn't take much for an accident to happenCensored [censored]! I feel stupid telling an experienced person like you , but have you run the needle tip across the softest part of your hand to feel any bur on the needle? or put it against a white piece of paper and look through a magnifying glass? just a suggestion. Well, enuff of my rambling, i'm off to try some high pressure, I will be back to report, Sir!

Hope to have good news,
Bill

All I can tell you is how I eliminated my splatter problem. In conjunction with the double action Badger 360, I was suprised to find that High Pressure was the answer. I was an advocate of low pressure close up fine line techniques when I was equipped with the single action Paasche H. I still experienced splatter and some overspray. When I switched to the double action, I read a tutorial which said, "turn your regulator up to 20+ lbs.!"

I was skeptical, but it works GREAT. The 360 only has one needle size, and I am at the point now where I can do the finest lines very cleanly. So, proper mixture of paint and thinner (consistency of 2% milk), pressure at twenty lbls, and wah lah! perfect results.

With the double action brush, controlling the paint flow is the answer, I have some really good results:

These squadron bands and the fine white lines are not decals-

This pattern is freehand with no masking:

Again freehand with no mask, no splatter:

Eliminating fineline spatter ?
Posted by plane mad on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 9:35 AM
I cant seem to spray a fine line without spatter.I'm certain that my pressure setting, paint mixture and distance to the model are correct. My airbrush is just over a month old ,so i'm not sure if the needle or nozzel needs replacing unless i've damaged it without realising.I even gave it a thorough strip and clean job before hand. Is there something i've overlooked ??

I'm an experienced modeler an airbrush user .
equipments : Iwata hp-cs with revell omega compressor
: Humbrol 116 olive green with humbrol thinner ( fresh new paint )
: tried it with gunze and tamiya acrylic thinner !!!! same results.

I even tried a different colour (model master ennamel flat black) and i still got spatter.
I feel like the spatter monster has layed his vodoo curse on me !!!! Please help !
