another EXCELLENT dull coat is Polly Scale (or Floquil) flat.  It won't attack your decals and it gives one excellent flat coat!  Also the Color of Eagles flat is a rival to the Floquil.  Otherwise use the Future and enamel or laqcuer will work over it.  IF you let it cure fully before dull coating it...

I have brushed future but I thinned it with Testors thinner first... it came out uniform.  Try it on spare sprue or pieces first and see how it works!

I've used Dull Coat, and the only problems that I ever had was that there seemed to be batch to batch variations in the flatness of it. Sometimes it was really flat, other times satin almost bordering on semigloss.  Although it is a lacquer, as long as you airbrush a reasonable coat, it won't atack the finish.

That said, I have converted to mixing Future with Tamiya X-21 Flat base at the ration of 4 parts Future to 1 part Flat Base.  It gives consistently good results, and because Futur is so cheap as to be effectively free, this makes for an extremely economical finish.
