Micro Scale Flat

I used the Micro clear coatings for years until I noticed that they were yellowing faster than some of the other clear coats I was using  (Dull and Gloss Coat, Walthers DDV etc.  So I quit using them, preferring Future for gloss and MM Semi-gloss and Dullcoat and DDV for flats.  Actually, the yellowing doesn't show up that badly except on white colors - kinda makes the model looks dingy - or that it needs to be dusted or washed, neither of which makes any difference in the appearance.  Has anyone noticed any yellowing problems with acrylics?

I use the flat for semi-glossing...

Trod on down to the local supermarket and buy a bottle of Future, then hop on over to your local hobby shop and buy a couple of bottles of Tamiya X-21 flat base.

Mix the two together, I generally start at a 4:1 ratio of Future to X-21.

Once you find that ratio that you're looking for, mix up a big batch (for consistency's sake), and spray away.

Gloss coat the model before decaling with regular Future.

This way, you're not applying dis-similar flat coats over each other, and you're less likely to get reactive results.

I've used it with similar results to those of GoatMonkey.  It was somewhat duller than semi-gloss, but a far cry from flat.  I did brush paint it, and I'm not sure what effect that would have on the glossiness.  I did find a nice use for it by using it as a binder with pastel chalk dust to make a reasonably decent mud for a Sherman tank.

i've used it.  it's not actually flat.  it's still glossy.  barely satin.
