Xtracolor paint
Posted by jarhead1 on Wednesday, March 22, 2006 1:10 PM
Being new to British made paint, Xtracolor in particular, makes me wonder what "white spirit" is?

Is it a product-specific thinner or a generic thinner?

Also, is there an American equivalent?

Thanks,

I have encountered several meanings for "white spirits."

Mineral spirits—this is the most likely current meaning.

Naptha—some historical reference

ethyl alcohol—archaic use

wood alcohol (methyl)—archaic use.

Why not check their website or contact them?

Thanks,

Charly,

Xtracolor are my absolute favorite enamels.  The seem to have exceedingly fine pigments in suspension, so it goes on like butter, levels nicely, and produces a high gloss finish.

To cut directly to what I think you want to know, use Testors Enamel Airbrush Thinner to reduce it for painting, and mineral spirits or lacquer thinner for cleanup.

Just brought some of the xtracrylix range and I'm very impressed with it so far, Also their flat varnish is water based so no nasty clean up.

Scott.
