You could spray clear flat on the "dull aluminum" parts and leave the "bright aluminum" glossy.

That would be my suggestion too as I've never seen a "flat-aluminum" at least not readily available in a bottle.

Of course with as long as I've been away from the bench they probably have one out now.

Actually, Tamiya make a Flat Aluminum - XF-16.  However, if the difference between "bright" and "flat" is quite subtle, I'd go with the "clear flat" over the "dull" areas too.

Mike how do you go about masking the color to spray the say the silver color.  In other works when I paint silver then mask even with a low tac tape I end up pelling off some of the paint? When I'm home I have to work fast to complete just a few of the kits before I leave again. so time is not on my side. J

I'd recommend switching to Alclad 2.  They have seven variants on aluminum* and the paint does not lift when masked.  A single bottle looks pricey, but it goes a long way and yields superior results.  BYW, I'm not affiliated in any way with the company, just a fan who has done a little research.

*Alclad 2 Aluminum paints:
Polished Aluminum      Dark Aluminum      Duraluminum      Aluminum
White Aluminum          Dull Aluminum        Airframe Aluminum

What paint are you using and how are you preparing the surface?
