Just to continue an older thread I came in just to look this up. I just shot some "Tamiya Fine Surface Primer White (L)" [what's the L for ?] and it seems to be a synthetic lacquer not much different than the Duplicolor that I use all the time on my figures. It went on very smoothly and dried quickly. First coat was a bit dusty, second coat smoothed that right out.
I will try to polish it out with 000 steel wool on the areas that will be armor and flesh. BTW this is going over my Rathalos Armor Hunter figure, previously primed in Duplicolor light grey sandable primer already rubbed down with 000 steel wool.
I plan to finish with Alclad and acrylics.
