Also get some Badger Regdab or Iwata-Medea Super Lube, both are glycerin products that will lube the needle and help prevent tip dry. It's expensive for a little bottle, but that bottle will likely last the rest of your life.

I had not heard of those products before , did you find them at your LHS ?

My LHS ordered in the Super Lube for me. Your LHS would likely do the same. They're also available through Bear Air or Dixie Art. Great Models stocks Regdab (P/N BG122).

So long folks!

Sounds like classic tip dry, and yes, retarder will help. You only need about a drop per air  brush cup of thinned paint.

Ross Martinek A little strangeness, now and then, is a good thing… Wink

What's your paint thinning ratio? If it's too thin (like I tend to do), it will clog the needle quickly. I went from a ratio of 50/50 to 70/30 and it helped. MM acrylics tend to be thin already. Also, you may want to reduce your psi. That will help also.

Needle sticking with acrylics

Iwata Revolution CR
Tamiya or MM Acrylics

I'm having a really hard time getting the hang of airbrushing - most due to the sticking of the needle within the tip. I can't get through half a cup before having to unscrew the back half and gently pull the needle free then reseat - continue painting. But, apparently, there is build up or something as the spray can be very "pulse - ish".

I do use a bit of Tamiya thinner per cup - and water for MM - but it still sticks. :\

I read on here about using a retarder to help with this? But I wasn't sure if this was for the problem I having or not.

Would such a retarder be like this one:

Will this help?

Thanks
