This method works well: get some thin yellow stretched sprue and some thin black stretched sprue. Twist them together. Run some thin superglue down the twisted threads, and leave to set. Hey presto! striped bang handles and no painting.
In fairness, this method has a fairly high wastage rate in terms of stretched sprue, but, then, you don't need much, and the stuff's free, isn't it? Only real problem is that yellow sprue isn't as easy to find as it used to be. However, in Europe, at least Revell AG's recent re-issue of the Heller 1/72 T-6G/ Harvard IV is moulded in yellow plastic.
Cheers,
Chris.
