Airbrush Problem
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, January 4, 2007 3:10 PM

Hi,

My name is Toby and I'm 14 so probably one of the youngest modellers here. This year for Christmas I received a Badger 200 airbrush.

Ok down to the point, I constructed a Panavia Tornado aircraft without a hitch but when it came down to painting it I ran into a problem. Before painting i had washed to model in warm soapy water and then left it for 24 hours to dry.

I thinned the paint and then began airbrushing. When I had completed the model in its lightest coat I left it to dry and everything seemed ok until the next day when I returned to the model. I returned to the model to find that some of the paint had cracked slightly.

Obviously being my first time at airbrushing I don't know what the reason was. On my practice piece of plastic this cracking had not appeared so I am now confused.

Do you know what had caused this problem?

Thanking you in advance.

Toby

Hi Toby, welcome to the forums!

There are a couple of other modelers here in your age group, check out the Young Guns Group Build.

My guess is soap residue left on the model, even after rinsing with water it can still cause trouble. Woolite is supposed to be very good, but I find a quick wipe with rag soaked with isopropyl alcohol helps!

Good Luck!

So long folks!

I have now sorted out this problem. i was thinning the paint down too much so i just cut back on the thinner and hey presto all is ok.

 Thanks for you help anyway
