I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I have used a range of masking tapes. The lighter the tack, the less likely the lift. Add to that, the direction of the peeling of the tape. My last experience was last night with Tamiya tape. In a moment of reckless abandon, I began to peel the tape rapidly and straight up. When I saw the first paint flaking off, sanity returned and I did two things; peeled SLOWLY and peeled the tape back on itself. No further problems! These are two things I have read, heard and done many times, and they work virtually every time.
