Essentially I got mine as a backup, and it is nice alongside my regular compressor, set to go with it's own airbrush, which is a nice one.

Prior to it, I kept a full can of Testors propellent in reserve as a back-up, which I still do in case of a power failure, or just for portibility convenience.

That's why I got the combo on special at Harbor Tool that goes for $70.00 until the 25th of this month (normally goes for $100.00:

And with Harbor Tool, for no extra cost, all you gotta do is hang on to your receipt, and you can get all the replacement parts you want in the first year for free.

Also, at this time, the best buy for a basic single-action, open-mixing air brush that has a nice propellent can adaptor is the Harbor Freight Tools model that lists for $10.00 but is now going for $3.99:

Although I have double-action, internal mixing air brushes as well, I still have three of these (I just swap for a fresh one if the one I am using gets clogged), and for most of the average modeller's airbrushing, it is more then adequate.

I find that the cheap Testors model (Multi-Purpose Sprayer ) that they sell at Wal-Mart tends to spray all over the place, wasting a lot of paint, and in fact is not really better then an off-the-shelf spray can, although it is advertised to be better then the  aerosol can.

Also, their spray-can adaptor does not have the adjustment valve that the Central Pneumatics/Harbor Tool model comes with.

I will be using acrylic paints and sticking with mainly 1/35th scale military models.  I just ordered Dragon's Tiger I and the Sherman Firefly.

Yes I bought a compressor at my LHS.  It is a paasche 20 psi that was about 150 bucks.  The Airbrush kit was only like 74 though.  Hope you find what you are looking for.

Thanks for the info.  They have websites for everything.

Did you get a compressor or do you use canned air?

I stopped making models in high school and now 20 years later I into it again.

Well Andrew, I have used the Wal-Mart version single action airbrush for years and it uses a can of air instead of a compressor.  It is a good one to use for first timers in my opinion.  I graduated high school on the 8th and got a Paasche VSR90 set and I love it!!!!!  I had never used a double action airbrush before but it is a life saver.  Have you tried BearAir.com?  They have details on the brushes and tell you which ones are for beginners.  The only thing is that you will have to get a compressor too.  Hope this helps.

I am looking for an airbrush and I am overwhelmed with all the info on this site.

Can anyone recommend one that isn't too expensive but good quality?

Thanks,

Andrew
