I have bought some stuff from ABD and have no complaints. IMO the more A/B's you have with a diversity in paint application ie. (coating large areas, medium detail/Camo and fine lines/ mottle and small amounts of paint per session) the better off you are. I'm not one to stick to a paticular brand just because, I bought a Iwata HP-BH from Air Brush Depot and love it. It's a premium A/B for the fine detail and complements the Badgers and Paaches' in my arsenal>

They are all somewhat similar yes, but Badger has superior customer service and they are American made if that matters to you.

Let's also consider what is meant by "detail?"

Modeling paints are not finely pigmented enough to recommend a Sotar 20/20 with a fine tip and needle, or a Micron, or a Paasche Turbo. These airbrushes require water colors, urethanes or inks to spray reliably through such small micro tips and extra fast needle tapers.

I would argue that a 100LG with a medium tip is all the airbrush you would ever need for modeling unless you want to get really brave and paint something like nose art by hand. Wink [;)]

I have my 100LG with the medium tip, and so far I haven't had the need to switch to the fine tip, which is taking up space in my airbrush tool box.

I usually just use my finger for nose art and not my whole hand. Propeller [8-]

Any gravity feed eclipse would do fine, although the Iwata HP-CH would probably be better.  If you want to go even finer, the Iwata HP-BH is always an option.  I'm sure I don't need to explain the Iwata micron series.  The sotar 20/20 is Badger's Micron, only it costs a lot less and does just as well.  The 100 LG was mentioned above.  It's a great brush for modeling, and IMHO it can handle almost any model painting task.  I would buy it with the medium head assembly, and get a fine head assemblyto supplement it.  Most of the time, all you will need is the medium assembly.  I must warn you, the 100LG is very good at soliciting.  It will turn your VL into a paper weight most of the time.  If all you use the brush for is modeling, I would go with the 100LG.

Iwata Eclipse...Hobby Lobby with 40% off coupon would probably be your best for price. Love mine!

I'd recommend an Iwata Revolution BR.  It's a gravity feed with .3mm needle and does great detail work.  I've been using mine for about 8 months now and I love it.  I do everything from top coat to fine line work with it.

Plus, it's $65 shipped.

I concur with MikeV (surprised? Didn't think so!). Dixie Art lists the 100LG Fine for $69.95 delivered.

I would go with the Badger 100LG with a fine tip and needle for that application.

The Omni 4000 is also great but not quite as precise as the Badger for fine lines.

Detail Airbrush

I'm in the market for a good detail gravity feed airbrush. I've been using a Paache VL for about 7 years, no complaints. I've been looking around and I've narrowed my serch down to the Omni 4000 and Iwata Eclipse HP-CS, and maybe a Badger 100GL. Thoughts and comments welcome.

In my search for my new toy I found the Master Airbrush line at the AirBrush Depot. Has anyone here used or heard of these brushes. They look like the Iwata AB's at a third of the price. The Mas G44 at $59.95 looks like an Iwata Micron CM-C Plus at $399.95, worth the price or wasted cash?
