Take the handle off, loosen the needle chuck, back the needle out a bit and then push it back into the tip and hold it there with your finger as you tighten the needle chuck.
It sounds like your needle is not seating and is allowing paint/water to get past it, or you, or the factory, damaged the cone (tip) and it is not seating.
