HEY,
I have to agree with murray, the last issue of Scale Auto is a great place to start. Also i suggest getting an airbrush, it may be a bit easier.

I'd really like to try flames too. Never done it, but have read lots about it. It's quite tedious and there doesn't seem to be any secret shortcuts. Just draw the mask and then apply it and go to town with the paint. Check the last issue of ScaleAuto. There was a pretty good article on flames in there...

I read in a book about car modeling a while back, that you could use bare metal foil, draw the flames on that and then use a new blade to cut your pattern. It should be thin enough not to leave a ridge, and you can determine exactly where you want the flame pattern to be. I haven't done this, but there were pics in the book illustrating how to. Might be worth a shot, but I'd practice on something old first.

Also, welcome to fsm!
