Another alternative for clean, dry, quiet air is CO2.  Best purchase in a long time.

There are other factors involved also.

Does noise present a problem? If not, I would go with an industrial type compressor as you can use it to fill your car tires, run an impact gun to remove your car wheels, etc.

If you need something quiet there are many good compressors from $100-$1,500 depending on what you want.

hi im new to the concept of airbrushing models. and ive been trying to find imformation on what aircompressor i should use. the owner of the hobby shop right off the base im stationed at said buying a "hobby" style aircompressor was a waste of money and he told me to just go buy an aircompressor from wal-mart or homedepot. so my question is what should i look for in an aircompressor, how many psi isn't enough or is to much? he also said something about a water/oil separater and a gauage.  thanks for the time
