This photo is taken of a decal sheet from a Hasegawa 1/48 ME-109G-10 "End of War", kit #09742. If you look at the black band especially, and also the blue/white/blue band, you can see the odd clear coat on the sheet.
Most of the markings on the sheet have this, and it is especially noticeable on the larger ones. I bought the kit from Sprue Brothers, and contacted them about it. They sent a replacement sheet, which has the same problem. I ended up using AM decals on the build, so it didn't matter much. Yesterday, I received another kit from Sprue Brothers, this one a 1/32 JU-87D-5 Stuka. The decal sheet has the same problem. I contacted them about it, and they are trying to get another sheet from the distributor. Looking back, I realize that both kits were in their "Super Specials" list, perhaps the kits listed there are seconds, known to be defective- hence the lower prices?
My question is, has anyone else encountered this? I am wondering how best to solve the dilemma. Will they perform like all of the others, with no adverse effects from the patchy clearcoat? Should I give them a coat of acrylic clear as a sealer? I can play around with the 1/48 109 decals, but I really do not want to ruin any of them as I would like to build both A/C on the sheet.
I could possibly send the Stuka back, but I really wanted the kit and the price was VERY good. But, as I look for AM decal sheets for it, I am coming up blank.
