Yellowish edges
Posted by gpal on Sunday, March 27, 2005 2:44 PM
I have an old Hasegawa F-16 model that was given to me and the decals on the sheet seem to have yellowish edges I guess from aging. Is there anything I can do to make the decals look ok when applying to a light gray F-16? Also what is the correct way to apply decals other than soaking in water?
Thanks, George

Hey Hey!Sign - Welcome [#welcome]to the Forum! What you can do is to first hang the decals in a window that gets some sun and that'll "bleach" out the yellow. This takes about a week. Then when you apply the decals, apply a setting solution to the surface of the model. MicroSet works well for this. Place the decal in this "puddle" and wait for it to dry a bit. On top of the decal, place a bit of MicroSol and this will help it to conform to all the surface detail. I have recommended MicroSet/Sol as it's a little more forgiving for somene new to the game. Personally, I prefer Solvaset as I prefer to get out the big guns right away. That's it in a nutshell. Hope this helps.

Remember also that a nice gloss surface is best for decals. Future floor wax owns in this area if you have a airbrush. Follow with another coat of future then use a coat of flat clear like Pollyscale or something similar if needed.
