You can also use micro-sol or micro-set to 'melt' the decal onto the model. You put it on after the decal is in place, it will wrinkle, but will then straighten out a bit later. If you need more, put more on, it really gets that nice painted on look.

on finding replacement decals: i've been reduced to buying bargain kits just to get the decals, ie. 1/144 rising suns after honeybunny trashed the plastic wrapping i idiotically left them in while building. so bid and won a cheap zero.

on setting the older i am thinking of using the testors decals spray to use on antique decals, but on another note have found white vinegar works as well as expensive setting solutions to get old decals to lie quietly and soothe their ruffled edges

After trying to salvage my decals, I decided to try them again. I let the decals sit for a while in the water until it slid right off the paper. I used future on the plastic on the area the decal is to go. I use a q-tip dipped in future to manipulate the decal into place, and use the dry end to soak up the excess future. I use a q-tip dipped in water to smooth it out, since water isnt sticky like future.

So far it has worked. Although I am out one Star and bar decal. But, I am super impressed with the effectivness of future used with decals!. I used the other star and bar I had to try to get it on the top of the wing(being real careful) After letting it dry the decal is pulled right into the plastic. It formed nicely over that raised part on the wing that i had asked about. There are a few small wrinkles but, its nothing serious and no longer looks like a decal.

I should have used future with my decals years ago...lol

Don't you just hate it when that happens? You can try checking out Great Models or Cutting Edge, their search engines may turn something up for you, they would list the various decal manufacturers.

Finally got to putting a few of the decals on my P-51D that has been a WIP for about 4 years now. The first decal was the star and bar on the top left wing. I dipped it in the water and put some future on the area to help lay the decal to the plastic. As I tried to posistion it the decal ripped and became extremely brittle. Im wondering if that decal sheet is too old.

Is there an online site that offers an after market decal sheet in 1/32 scale for Chuck Yeager's "Glamorous Glen III?"

I looked at squadron, but to no avail. And sadly I dont know of any other online sites off hand.

Also, I noticed that it didnt want to lay flat over the area on the wing just in front of the ailerons(i believe). There are two of them near the top of the wing. I am guessing that it has something to do with what would control the ailerons. Something like a servo on a RC plane. But, what is the best way to get the decal to lay flat on something that is raised higher than small panel lines, rivets, etc..?

Thanks everyone
