Looking for Primer/Info on Build your own Decals
Posted by JohnMcD348 on Tuesday, June 19, 2007 10:59 PM

I'm getting ready to build a couple of Spitfire kits and was wondering about creating my own decals for the models in question.

What I want to do is try to create the markings for the individual Mk's that correspond with the 1st Squadron to receive the model.  Ex: Mk.I.  I would like to create embloms and markings correlating with the 19th RAF Sqd.  I have a cannon color multifunction printer.  Is there a program that I can use to create these?  Will my printer actually work or would I need to look elsewhere?

My goal is to build every available Mk that was built from the inception to the retirement of the aircraft.

Thanks

Custom Decal software... Surething Decal Maker-Standard Edition.

This program is great! I use it to make my own decals. You will need photo editing software as the Surething program does not have it. I recommend Adobe Photo Shop. Corel Draw or Paint Shop Pro. Google offers a free photo editer called Picasa which is just as good. Depending on whether you have a inkjet printer or a laser printer you will need decal paper to print on. I get mine here... and they sell 8.5 x 11 sheets for both inkjet and laser printers.

One other thing you have to consider is that inkjet printers don't print white.

Very true but, you can buy white background decal paper for inkjet printers and laser printers do print in white.

Just thought I would mention that Meteor Productions carries an Iliad Designs sheet of 1/48 pre-war Spitfire markings (ILIAD48003), with some for 19 squadron.
