Help, wrinkles on my decals
Posted by Anthony on Friday, September 21, 2007 10:54 PM
I don't know what has happened. I do what I believe is right: 1) Spraying Future after painting. 2) Applying decals. 3) Applying Micro-Set. 4) Applying Micro-Sol. Just when I am applying Micro-Sol, wrinkles show up. I try to apply more Micro-Sol and press hard to flatten the wrinkles but fail. On the other hand, this does not happen on other decals if I skip using Micro-Set (that terrible vinegar smelling thing) but apply only Micro-Sol on them. Did I do something wrong in the process? Please help. Thanks.

I have found that not all decals are compatible with setting solutions. Some of them seem to self destruct , or do nothing at all if solution is applied. Some model manufacturers state in the instructions that setting solutions should not be used. All I can suggest is that is there are any spare decals on the sheet, try running a "test".

The only thing you are doing wrong is trying to flatten out the wrinkles.

It is entirely normal for decals to appear to shrivel and wrinkle after applying a setting solution. Don't be tempted to try to smooth it out - don't even touch it. Assuming that you are decalling on a gloss surface, the decal will settle and smooth itself out as the setting solution dries.
