REALLY SHINY Aeromaster decals?
Posted by Daywalker on Sunday, October 21, 2007 10:48 AM
I have a set of EXTREMELY shiny Aeromaster decals, and am wondering if anyone has any tips for applying them?  I tried in the past, but never had any luck with them.  They responded mildly to micro-sol, and stayed wrinkled.  Does anyone have any tips?  Unfortunately, the decals I have are OOP and the aircraft I am putting them on is also OOP so I really only have one shot at it.  Please help!  TIA!

I have had similar issues with the really shiny ones.  I apply them wityh water only at first and use a Q-tip to get them nice and pressed down and then brush some Micro Sol over the top.  If they look like they might wrinkle I wait 'til they are almost dry but still have a tiny bit of "flex" left and VERY gently roll the side of a Q-tip over the decal form the middle out.

BTW, did i forget to mention... VERY gently.

BTWII... what ya working on?

Blindfold [X-)]Thanks Mark, I am gonna give that a try.  Right now I am working on an Airfix Seafire Mk.46.  It's a pretty nice kit, except for the decals and the clear parts.  Got to use a vacuum form canopy for the rear sliding section, as the kit-supplied one is too narrow to fit down over the spine and the front one had a crack right down the middle.  The decals are WAY out of register and totally unusable.  Luckily, JWB had one set of Aeromasters which he sent to me, and I only have one shot at this so I gotta get it right!
