How to remove a decal?
Posted by gjek on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 6:16 PM
Last night I couldn't sleep so I decaled a Jagermeister Porsche 956. This morning I discovered that I put the wrong decal on one side (large decal). I have an extra decal that is correct but how do I remove the one thats on there without damaging the enamel paint? I used Testers decal solvent to try and get it to contour to some vents. Thanks, Greg.

I have had success with regular brake fluid in the past.  Any car parts store has it.

Don't use Scotch tape, except as a last resort. Your chances of damaging the paintwork are excellent. If you don't want to re-use the decals, then Tamiya tape should do the job without damaging the paintwork. I've also had success flooding the decal with Microset, leaving it a few minutes, and then trying to lift the edge of the decal with a paint brush. Once the edge is lifted, it's easy to remove. With this method, the decal often comes away in one piece and, with care, can be re-used.

Cheers,

Chris.

I say use tape, carefully!!! And DO NOT use brake fluid, I dont know why some one would say to use brake to take off a decal. You can use use brake fluid to strip the paint.
