Spray, Photo, and Drying booth all in one? He must be crazy, you say!

Well say not, my friends, as I'm gonna do it.  I'll call it my Sprotoing Booth...or maybe my Phodraying booth...okay, so the name still needs work...Whistling [:-^]

For those of you reading this (thank you) but missed the construction of my new spray booth, please have a look here:

Now that the original challenge is done, I think the next thing I need to do is to hang a small Purple-K (A/B extinguisher) near the spray booth, and mount the plexiglass lid.

After that, I'll be adding the things necessary to make it function as a drying booth and a photobooth as well. I've spent the last few nights going through all of the forum posts in Painting and tools, gleaning ideas and I think I have a fairly good idea of what I need to do. Once I get all my planning out of the way, I'll tackle the circuitry side of things. I'd like to end up with a control panel that has a rheostat for the fans (that's gonna take some doing, as I think they are binary...), and individual switches for the fluorescent light, a temperature controlled incandescent light for heat, a compressor switch, and possibly an emergency kill-button.

Feel free to ask questions, to heckle me and each other, and to provide any suggestions that you can come up with.

Cheers,
Alex

I guess from there you could computerize the whole operation, then go the ultimate step and robotocise the actual painting process. Then you could patent the whole thing and all of us modelers out here without spray booths would jump at the chance to plunk down four or five thousand bucks for a fully autonomous painting system.

I don't know about the dryer part but I think the photo booth is a terrific idea. If you could incorporate side lighting into the booth as well as O/H lights that would probably help as well. I will definitely have to consider this as I'm going to build a booth this winter using a bilge blower, from West Marine, and set it up as a downdraft booth.

NASA would buy it!

Forget the Purple-K Alex. Just keep an open box of Arm & Hammer baking sode and a small water source nearby. In case of mishaps, kill the power and sprinkle on the soda. If that doesnt do the trick, drizzle on the H2O.

At least you might be able to save the fansLaugh [(-D]

Hey Nam,

About the Purple-K, I've got one laying around, as I was VFD back home in the midwest.  So, its not like I have to go buy one.  If I did have to spend money on it, I'd probably go with baking soda and water, like you said.

I've been giving some thought to shelving, since you suggested it...I have a bit of shelving under the cart, where my power supply and compressor is, where I've been storing thinner and mineral spirits.  I don't think I can put shelves inside the booth itself, as they'll block the light.  I'll have to give it some more thought...

Cheers,
Alex
