I made mine from .040 aluminum with a baked white finish. I have an explosion proof fan from Granger. It's a downdraft and uses a standard size furnace filter. I keep a coat of car wax on the inside to make it easy to clean. It works great. I have an under cabinet light mounted on top. There's a piece of Plexiglas between the light and the booth.

Hi sawdustbob,
Thought I'd add my 2 cents worth here. The below booth is my own home made one. for the body I used my old busted microwave, gutted it, attached some wood board on the bottom and drilled multiple holes through it. I then went to my local hardware and purchased an overhead light and bathroom ceiling fan. I cut the appropriate hole on the top for the light and attached the fan underneath. both items are plugged into the power socket. lastly I added a door in the front to stop the dust getting onto the model.

There is a third choice. You can draw the air to a plenum at the rear, with a vertical filter (I used a furnace filter). My objection to updraft type is on my last version I mounted a fluorescent lamp in the top. I have to believe the downdraft type will cause more junk to settle on model.

Thanks for the links. THe sparking issue was why I was going to use the blower type fan since the motor is usually not in the path of the airflow.
Hi & welcome
Lots of people have built their own, the 'erm 'consensus' if there is one, suggest the following recipe works well.
Perspex top and/or sides with strip lighting, Furnace filters or cooker-hood filters (or even just a cooker hood!) at the rear of the booth, With an extractor vented to the outside behind that.
MANY people suggest either a shrouded fan with the motor out of the airflow OR one suited to shower booths is a good idea.
Key point is to prevent the (small) risk of the motor sparking causing VOC's to flashover, esp with Enamel, Alcohol, Cellulose/Laquer & rattle cans. I think Acrylics could also burn, not all are water based.
Some Uk builds here for thought.

Don't feed the CM!
I would like to build a paint booth of my own. Building the body of the booth will be no problem but I need to decide weather I want a downdraft or overhead vent? What kind of lighting and filtering and any other hints any of you might have? Also if anyone knows of a source for smaller 110 V squirrel cage type blowers I would appreciate it.
